MENTAL HEALTH, RUGBY LEAGUE AND LEADING BY EXAMPLE
On episode seven of the Believe In Yourself Podcast, I am joined by former professional rugby league player now turned entrepreneur, motivational speaker and founder of Award Winning Andy’s Man club, Luke Ambler.
Luke shares his incredible story started with sharing his experiences as a young boy when his mother and father separated, and his mother was seriously injured in a car crash. Luke fell in love playing Rugby League as it allowed me to be his true self on the field and went onto representing Salford, Leeds Rhinos and his country Ireland. He opens up on his experiences playing professional rugby league and shares a number of stories that he has never told before.
In 2016 Luke’s brother in law Andy Roberts took his own life at the age of 23. Determined to make a change Luke founded Andy’s Man Club. What started with a small group men that turned up and talked openly about their feelings and struggles. They now have 28 clubs across the UK and have just under1000 people that show up every Monday.
We talk about how Luke deals with the pressure of running a huge movement, the importance of talking about your own struggles and mental health in rugby.
